?”If you were successful, thumb somebody along the line gave you some help,” Obama said. “There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.”
The full quote, while not an outright lie, is most definitely a half truth. I’m OK with the first 2 lines. But then he mentioned the “unbelievable American system” that taxed the crap out of my parents’ business. Investment in roads? Oh, you mean the money that was stolen (which so many say they voluntarily give, because they are good citizens, but admit it, IT HURTS YOUR WALLET and you probably wouldn’t give like they take from you.) to pay the govt to build the roads and bridges?
I don’t mind if you want to say a teacher helped somewhere along the way. I don’t mind if you want to say that the customers helped or the employees… THEY DID! But don’t say that the current American system has done anything to help because that is a load of bull honkey!
Sorry, but that just peeved me enough to take the time to write something… Go ask a small business owner what help they got from the govt. and they’ll probably tell you that they are struggling to keep their store open every month.
To quote my mother: ” How did the government help us with our business? Taxed us and made us glad we closed then. We would be one of those small businesses they want to raise taxes on because we were an S- corp. They tax your fixtures, inventory, blah, blah-blah,blah. We dipped into the home equity during the lean season and payed it back when we made hay. Living better on less.”
