For those of you that don’t know, salve my husband and I tend to have no snack food in the house other than Neylan’s snacks. We try to keep our food as healthful as possible and I believe that by doing a “no snack” policy while at the house (except for special occasions) we are less likely to eat MSG, decease HFCS, pills and a host of other “not-so-healthy” foods. This means that unless I have left overs in the house, I need to actually cook something.
Today I was going through my fridge and noticed that we still had taco wrappers and salsa from last week’s movie night. I took out the frozen chicken breast (which was still on the bone. We bought it that way to save money.) and put it in the microwave to defrost. I made my taco seasoning, cooked my chicken “cubes”, and then mixed 1/3 cup of water and 1 1/2 tbsp. of the seasoning in and let it thicken.
I WILL WARN YOU!!! IT IS VERY SPICY, depending on the age of your crushed chili peppers. You may want to decrease that amount a little bit. I love spicy food and I was running to the fridge for some milk. 😛
- 3 tablespoons crushed chili pepper
- 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1-1/2 teaspoon onion-salt (depending on saltiness. If you don’t have this do a half and half of onion powder and salt)
- 3/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 3/4 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1-1/2 teaspoons paprika
- 4-1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
Mix inside a little airtight container. Save what you don’t use. These herbs are expensive depending on their quality!
